Council enforcement officers will be on patrol in the borough to crackdown on anyone caught fly-tipping.

People caught leaving material on roads or pavements without a licence face a £150 fine or even criminal prosecution.

Newham Cllr Ian Corbett, executive member for infrastructure and environment, said: “Building material illegally left outside properties isn’t just an eyesore – it can also be dangerous. We want to ensure Newham is kept clean and road users are safe.”

Conditions will apply to the licence, such as a maximum period of time.

Penalty charges will be applied when materials remain past the allowed period or when placed without prior approval.

To apply for permission to place materials on the highway contact Newham Council on 020 3373 1463 or 020 3373 2000.
