CCTV vans are patrolling the streets of Newham late at night in an attempt to crack down on crime and anti-social behaviour.

The council’s two CCTV vans, capturing video images and still photos of incidents, offences and offenders, respond to public complaints.

The vans are also used to help combat fly-tipping and respond to noise complaints.

Zooming in on crime and anti-social behaviour hotspots cameras help gather evidence used to serve ASBOs, and assist police in detecting crime and enforce dispersal zones.

Newham Mayor Sir Robin Wales said: “Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour is one of the key priorities in this borough and we take it very seriously. We will never apologise for cracking down hard on yobs that make residents’ lives miserable.

“CCTV is a highly effective tool for tackling crime, and is used widely across the country. These vans make a big difference.”
