Vary your routine to avoid lurking muggers, advise Newham police, after man is dragged into an alley and robbed in Stratford.
Vary your routine to avoid lurking muggers, advise police, after a man was dragged into an alley and robbed in Stratford.
The victim got off a No. 25 bus at Stratford Station on Friday, October 26 at 7.30pm.
As he started to walk along Chant Square, he was approached from behind by two men.
One of the suspects grabbed him around the neck and forced him into a nearby alleyway, searched his pockets and stole his mobile phone, a silver chain and a fake Gucci scarf.
Andy Whitfield, crime prevention design advisor, said: “When travelling around be aware of your surroundings.
“Walk with a purpose; head up, and, if dark, in well-lit areas.
“Stay with the crowd. There is safety in numbers. If you take the same route every day, consider varying your routine. Don’t do the same thing at exactly the same time every day.
“If someone is acting suspiciously, looking at you closely or following you, head for bright lights and people, and call the police.
“Consider carrying a whistle or other noise-making device and use it to call attention to yourself if threatened.”
