Two Asian men were reported to have been subjected to an unprovoked assault by a group of men at the Central Hotel and pub in Barking Road on Friday last week.

Police attended the scene after the incident took place.

One of the victims, a 30-year-old man who wishes to remain anonymous, said he has now cancelled plans to hold a Christmas party there.

He said: “We were just having a quiet drink and we could see them over there saying they were going to do something.

“They came over to us and started saying Paki that, and Paki this. Then they came at us like a pack of animals, when we were trying to calm them down.

“They were kicking and stamping on me. The lump I had on my head was like something from the Tom and Jerry cartoons. I was lucky, really.”

They were taken to Newham General Hospital after the incident.

The victim suffered cuts and bruises but his friend had to have 18 stitches after sustaining a serious head injury.

He added: “I was going to have my birthday and Christmas celebrations in here but obviously that’s not going to happen now.

“It’s not good. It’s not something I would expect to happen, especially in 2012.”

Hotel manager Marcell Piotowski said the incident “came out of nowhere.”

“Some men started arguing and then the fighting started,” he said. “You know what happens when some people can’t handle their drink.”

A Met Police spokesman said the investigation into the incident was ongoing.

“On Friday August 3 2012 at 12.44am police attended the Central Public House following reports of an assault.

“Two men from the E6 area were taken to hospital by LAS where they were treated for minor head injuries. “They were later discharged. No arrests were made.”
