Church of England schools in Newham will be overseen by a new Director of Education, it was announced this week.
Appointed by the Diocese of Chelmsford, who runs the church’s affairs in the borough, Rev Canon Tim Elbourne will leave his current post as Director of Education in Ely to take up the role.
Rev Canon Tim Elbourne said: “Supporting children, young people and those who work with them in schools, colleges and parishes is among the greatest privileges within God’s mission.
“I am thrilled to be coming to one of the largest and most diverse dioceses in England at such a challenging yet exciting time and working with the energetic team here.”
The Right Rev John Wraw, chair of the Chelmsford Diocesan Board of Education, said: “The 140 Church of England schools across Essex and East London make a major contribution to giving youngsters a good start in life.
“Tim will bring considerable experience and enthusiasm to this vital work at a time of significant change in the field of education.”
Police burst through the doors of 13 suspected gang members today in a series of dawn raids to crack down on street violence.
