Hosted by the North Thames East Paediactric Diabetes Network, it saw children enjoy a range of healthy activities in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Youngsters could make fruit skewers, have their faces and nails painted and compete in a variety of different games and sports.

They were also goven information about how to manage type one diabetes.

Paediatric diabetes dietitian at Barts Health NHS Trust, Sonja Allen, said: “Type 1 diabetes is a serious and lifelong condition, but there is much we can do to support people to live well and stay healthy.

“Events such as these are a vital part in ensuring that children and their families get the right treatment and information to lead full lives.”

Type one diabetes affects around 2.9 million people in the UK, and cannot be cured.

Instead, it is controlled by insulin injections but those with the condition are encouraged to keep their blood sugar levels stable by eating a healthy diet and taking regular exercise.
