Mr Magoo, who is blind with no tail, rarely goes out but sits with his owner, Lee Levey, on their front step in Brandreth Road.

On Sunday, a pedestrian was walking what Lee describes as a pitbull cross-breed, when they lost control of it on the lead and the dog allegedly attacked Mr Magoo.

He was left with a broken leg and stitches in his back which has caused “uproar” in the street as he is such a favourite with neighbours, according to Lee.

Lee, who lives with nine cats, said: “I truly believe the next time someone takes a dog out that they can’t control, there’s going to be a baby sat in a pram.

“There must be something put in place to say that that person can’t control their dog so this sort of thing doesn’t happen again.”

Lee, who has filed a report with the police and the RSPCA, is holding a public meeting to discuss what residents can do to effectively report such incidents and prevent their pets getting hurt in the future.

To attend the meeting at Lee’s house in Beckton on Thursday at 8pm, email llevey@09@aol.com or call 07958219810.
