Even Newham’s babies and toddlers have caught the Olympic fever sweeping the borough.
Children aged eight months to five years old got in on the action during a Mini Olympic Games at Chestnut Nursery in Beckton.
Around 30 little sporting heroes took part at the nursery which is based at Ellen Wilkinson Children’s Centre in Tollgate Road.
Going for gold in a range of activities, particular highlights included an egg and spoon race, and a kiddie friendly version of discus and javelin, and a 100m dash.
Afterwards, the five-year-olds graduated in a traditional ceremony wearing gowns and homemade caps.
Newham Council’s rejection of a planning application for the UK’s biggest mosque is set to be the subject of a public inquiry this year.
