The nine volunteers from London City Airport went to Britannia Village Hall in West Silvertown, Newham, as part of a team challenge organised by the airport. There they set to work on the community centre’s garden to give it a makeover as requested by centre users and management.

The team, from various departments around London City Airport, spent a collective 36 hours at the centre working to improve the garden so that local people who use Britannia Village Hall can enjoy the space more.

The airport has a strong relationship with Britannia Village Hall and often supports its many programmes and activities, as well as volunteering an airport manager to the Trust which manages the centre.

David Mann, Britannia Village Hall Manager, said: “The Team Challenge was a great day, both fun and helpful. We really appreciate the practical and financial help London City Airport gives to the work of West Silvertown Foundation. Work days like this strengthen our relationship and enable airport staff to meet local young people and build links which can help them access employment.”
