Vivian Archer, manager of the Newham Bookshop, is looking for organisations and clubs that care for the elderly to donate Gilda O’Neill books to.

Vivian is a trustee of a new charity called Gilda Street in honour of the author whose books about the East End are firm favourites.

Described as a ‘close friend’ of the Newham Bookshop, Vivian said she was ‘devastated’ when Gilda when passed away at the age of 59 in 2010.

She said: “She loved the East End and she loved the people of the East End.

“If anyone works with old people and would like a donation of Gilda’s books, them write to me or ring me up.

“It’s in her memory - we’ll do lots in her memory - and it’s what she would have wanted to happen with her books.”

Write to Vivian by visiting www.newhambooks.co.uk or by calling 0208 552 9993.
