Hammers Jussi Jaaskelainen is looking to relive the heady days at Bolton as he continues to impress at West Ham
Hammers keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen remembers the good times under Sam Allardyce at Bolton.
Now he sees no reason why West Ham cannot emulate those days after their magnificent 3-1 victory over Chelsea at Upton Park on Saturday.
Bolton under Allardyce reached the top six of the Premier League and qualified for Europe and Jaaskelainen sees similarities between the two teams.
“At Bolton I remember we began the season on fire, but then couldn’t win for seven games, but still finished in the top six,” said the veteran goalkeeper, who made some superb saves to keep the Blues out.
“That’s my job and that’s what I do well,” he said. “It’s all about consistency. Everyone makes mistakes, but as long as you’re consistent, you will do well.”
There were a few doubters when the Finland international was drafted in to replace Robert Green, but even at his advanced years, he has proved to be an important part of the squad.
“I’m 37, but I look after myself 24/7 and people have told me to try to stay in the game as long as I can because once you are out, you can’t get back in.”
