Sam Allardyce says West Ham new boy Wellington Paulista is still weeks away from making his debut as he continues to work towards match fitness.
The 28-year-old Brazilian striker will not feature in Wednesday’s clash against Arsenal at the Emirates and Allardyce admits it could up to two weeks until Hammers fans see him in action.
Wellington has joined the east Londoners from Cruzeiro on loan but while West Ham have received clearance to play him, Allardyce insists he won’t be rushed.
“We have only just got clearance through for Wellington, but he wouldn’t be ready for a number of weeks,” he said.
“He had five weeks off at the end of his season, so he is going through what we normally go through in July.
“That’s about sustaining and maintaining a fitness level which will be good enough to cope with playing in the Premier League.
“So he is not there for a week or two yet.”
Yaya Sanogo says a meeting with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was enough to persuade him to snub a move to Lille and join the Gunners instead.
