West Ham assistant manager Neil McDonald has described Everton as “a model for any club” as they prepare to go head to head at Upton Park on Saturday.

Everton lie sixth in the Premier League table, four points ahead of West Ham and just two points behind fourth-place Tottenham as they look to emulate their 2004-05 feat of qualifying for the Champions League.

McDonald, who played for Everton between 1988 and 1991, is hugely impressed by what David Moyes has achieved on a tight budget at Goodison Park and believes their rivals would do well to follow their example.

“I think that they are a model for any club,” he said.

“Over the past ten years since David [Moyes] has been there they have been in the top half the majority of the time.

“They have showed that with a little bit of finance and a good recruitment policy it is possible to get into the top six and push on towards the top four.

“I would think David is very pleased with where they are right now and they have a good platform going into the second half of the season.”
