Stoke star Charlie Adam was delighted the Potters’ set piece paid off to fantastic effect.
Glenn Whelan gave the signal before playing it to Jonathan Walters, who ran from the back post to an open area and fired his shot home.
“I think at this level you need something different,” Adam told Sky Sports. “You need something extra.
“We’ve been working all week on it. If we can get somebody blocking one of our men.
“Fortunately it worked. This is a tough place to come – West Ham are a good side.”
