There will be no immediate call to cut short Andy Carroll’s West Ham loan in January despite Liverpool’s striker crisis deepening.
Fabio Borini requires surgery on a broken foot that could keep the Italian out for three months, leaving Reds boss Brendan Rogers with Luis Suarez as his only recognised striker.
But the Anfield chief looks set to persevere with just the Uruguayan.
Asked about the possibility of an early return for club record £30million signing Carroll – on a season-long loan at Upton Park – the Irishman said: “It isn’t something I have considered, to be honest.
“Andy has obviously gone out to get games. We have people watching when he plays and they report back on how he is doing.
“But with Fabio’s injury just coming up we will assess it from there.”
However Hammers co-owner David Gold replied to a fan’s tweet on Wednesday to say that the England international could not be recalled until the New Year anyway.
