Ever since I wondered aloud whether this team could challenge for the European places we have tumbled down the table.

Recent results have been poor, but the performances are of more concern. You can forgive defeats away at Arsenal and Fulham, however I do not see a side that will bounce back from these losses.
We still have Mohammed Diame on our books after last night’s transfer deadline passed and I could not see our fortunes improving unless we can kept him in claret and blue.
He was our best player against Fulham in a game where he was not at his best, his return to fitness coming at a vital time.
Andy Carroll looked sharp too, and while his goal return is not what he would have hoped he still looks a altogether bigger threat than are other strikers.
"Our early transfer captures now seem insufficient. Maybe that is the recent form clouding opinion with negativity, but I stake my hopes on Andy Carroll and Momo Diame"
The away form remains a huge problem. Thankfully, there still appears to be three worse teams in the league than us, the total for safety should remain low this year and we have a solid base of points from our early season form.
However, we are being dragged into the relegation scrap without doubt, a loss on Saturday at home to Swansea would be a huge blow and should force real worry.
The frustration continued during the transfer window. We started strongly in the early days of January, but it now feels we are a little short.
Money has not flowed freely on defenders for a good few years and it is no different in 2013.
Blackburn’s Martin Olsson became a ‘no’, Neil Warnock chose to go with namesake Stephen at Leeds and we struggled to sign Blackburn keeper Paul Robinson.
Alou Diarra has slipped out of the exit doors (on loan to Rennes), but injuries to defenders are causing obvious consternation and rivals are strengthening.
Our early transfer captures now seem insufficient. Maybe that is the recent form clouding opinion with negativity, but I stake my hopes on Andy Carroll and Momo Diame.
As good as Wembley was, for the play-off final last year, I do not want to see the Championship again.
