To mark the 20th anniversary of Bobby Moore’s death West Ham have asked fans heading to tonight’s Premier League home clash with Tottenham to take their seats at the ground early, as tributes from current and former Hammers players are set to be screened before the game.

The Hammers yesterday held a ceremony outside Upton Park to mark the occasion, while the team will be playing in specially-embroidered shirts and several of Moore’s contemporaries have been invited to attend as special guests of the club, including Peters, Hurst and Sir Trevor Brooking.

There will be a minute’s applause to remember Moore and supporters will also be invited to take part in displaying a special mosaic depicting his number six shirt, which was retired in August 2008 to mark the 50th anniversary of his West Ham debut.

Activities are also planned to raise money for the Bobby Moore Fund, the charity founded in his memory, while Moore’s grandchildren Poppy, Ava and Freddie will lead the teams out.

Speaking yesterday, co-chairman David Gold said: “All of this is simply our way of paying our respects to such an iconic footballer and man.

“One of the nicest men, who had personality, charm and modesty and is a legend in the game.

“Tomorrow’s game will have it all for Bobby - as well as all the tributes, a bustling London derby with a full crowd behind the team. I think it is just fitting for him.”
