West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has called on his side to produce a repeat performance of their 1-0 win at Newcastle when they travel to the north-east again to face Sunderland on Saturday.

The Hammers’ have not taken three points on the road since that clash in November, when Kevin Nolan’s first half strike against his old club proved decisive at St James’ Park.

Allardyce’s side have won just two of nine away outings this season, a poor record that the manager puts down to their wasteful form in front of goal.

“It was a great result and a great performance at the time,” said the West Ham boss of the victory against Newcastle.

“I think that our problem away from home is clear,” he continued. “Performances have been good but our lack of goal scoring power is the big worry.”

The Hammers have netted a meagre five goals away from home in the Premier League this season, compared to 19 in 11 games at Upton Park.

“We haven’t scored enough, simple as that. That means we haven’t gathered enough points.

“Because of that we are struggling in our away results total and we really have to put that right, starting against Sunderland on Saturday.”

The Hammers have loaned Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh and will welcome Andy Carroll back from injury in two weeks’ time as they look to remedy their goal scoring problems.
