Tottenham transfer news: Deal for centre half could be cancelled due to disagreement about payment to the player
Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen says he is hopeful but not certain that he will complete a transfer to Tottenham this summer.
The Belgian has been a long-term target of Spurs and it was hoped a deal for the 25-year-old could have been reached some time ago.
Ajax claimed yesterday that the deal was in the final stages and should be completed shortly however it has emerged that there has been a disagreement between the club and player regarding his sell-on percentage fee.
"This is a shame. I thought that it would be sorted out much sooner," the Belgian told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.
There is a hearing on July 2 regarding the sell-on percentage, which is likely to decide Vertonghens future.
"I'm shocked. The percentage is correct. It's unbelievable. I know that at Ajax a lot of things are leaking. When you hear it about other football players, you don't feel it. It's different when it's about yourself," he concluded.
"I hope for a solution, but I do not assume," he added. "I have one advantage: Ajax have got a good coach who knows me. I play in a good, stable squad. Let's become champions with Ajax for the third time in a row."
