The January transfer window is upon us and here London24 rounds up 10 of football’s most in-demand targets that could move in and out of the capital’s clubs.
Radamel Falcao, Monaco, 27
Chelsea and Manchester City have been linked with the former Atletico Madrid striker despite the Columbian only swapping La Liga for Monaco in a €60 million this summer.
Javier Hernandez, Manchester United, 25
With ‘Chicarito’ struggling for first-team football at Old Trafford and the World Cup in Brazil approaching in the summer, Tottenham and Arsenal have been linked to the Mexican striker.
Xabi Alonso, Real Madrid, 32
The Real Madrid midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season so will have obvious suitors in Chelsea and former manager Jose Mourinho plus old club Liverpool, while Manchester United are in the market for a top quality midfielder.
Jermain Defoe, Tottenham Hotspur, 31
A move to Major League Soccer side FC Toronto has been mooted with the striker desperate for more game time in order to make Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the World Cup. Former club West Ham are also in need of a goalscorer, while Harry Redknapp, who has managed him at three clubs could, move for him again and take him to Championship high-flyers Queens Park Rangers.
Juan Mata, Chelsea, 25
The Chelsea playmaker showed frustration at being substituted during the 3-0 win at Southampton on New Year’s Day, having been left on the fringes this term by manager Jose Mourinho. The Blues boss admitted he doesn’t want to sell the Spaniard but said his door is open if the World Cup winner wants to tak about leaving, with Paris St Germain a leading contender for his signature.
Wilfried Zaha, Manchester United, 21
A loan move could be on the cards for the winger after failing to make an impact at Old Trafford following his £15million switch from Crystal Palace in the summer. Eagles boss Tony Pulis has not ruled out bringing the England international back to Selhurst Park, while Newcastle and Cardiff are also possible destinations.
Stephan El Shaaraw, AC Milan, 21
The Serie A star has been on the radar of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City, though he is out for up to 10 weeks with a fractured foot, which could be too much of risk in this transfer window.
David Luiz, Chelsea, 26
Barcelona have long been admirers of the Brazilian midfielder and as he is yet to make himself indispensible under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea - and with a World Cup in his homeland the prize at the end of the season - a big money move could tempt both the shaggy-haired ace and the Blues.
Julian Draxler, Schalke, 20
The German international is one of the Bundesliga’s hottest properties, but though he has 10 caps for his country he is not a first choice, and a move to either Manchester United or Arsenal could pique the interest of national coach Joachim Low ahead of this summer’s World Cup.
Kevin De Bruyne, Chelsea, 22
It seems when, not if, the Belgian will leave Stamford Bridge as the winger has been left in the cold by Jose Mourinho. He has been making noises about seeking regular football elsewhere so a move back to the Bundesliga with either Bayer Leverkusen or Wolfsburg are two possibilities.
