Scott Parker believes that England could succeed at Euro 2012 as long as they show togetherness and commitment
Tottenham star Scott Parker believes that England should learn from Chelsea’s incredible Champions League victory if they want to progress at Euro 2012.
The Blues lifted the trophy after withstanding 180 minutes of relentless pressure from Barcelona in the semi final as well as 120 minutes of pressure from Bayern Munich in the final before triumphing on penalties.
“I think we have a real togetherness and commitment in the squad and ultimately that can get you a long way,” he said.
“We’ve seen that last year with Chelsea and other teams. I think fundamentally, they are the main key ingredients of why we can go and progress further, albeit it’s going to be a very tough game against an Italian side that are very well prepared and organised with individual qualities.
“If we carry on doing what we are doing we can maybe upset them.”
Parker knows that he will come up against one of the best midfielders in the world in Andrea Pirlo but is excited by the prospect.
“As a kid and when you play football, you want to pit your wits against the best and Pirlo is one of those,” he said.
“The clips I have seen of him in this tournament, his passing ability, his control of the game is fantastic. I am really looking forward to the game. You always look forward to playing against the best.
“The front players are very tricky as well so it is going to be a tough game.”
The Brisbane Road-based club are hopeful permission for a review will be granted after oral hearing.
