Michael Dawson was pleased to come out on top in his battle with West Ham striker Andy Carroll in Spurs’ 3-2 win at Upton Park last night.
Liverpool loanee Carroll netted a penalty to cancel out Gareth Bale’s opener and although Joe Cole gave the home side a 2-1 lead, an equaliser from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Bale’s remarkable late strike gave Spurs all three points.
Dawson was influential in keeping Carroll quiet after his first-half spot kick.
It wasn’t the first time the pair have gone head to head and the Spurs skipper said the physical battle was no less than he expected.
“It was certainly no different!” he told Spurs’ official website.
“It’s always a tough test against Andy, a few elbows here and there, but that’s football.”
He added: “I love it when we win.”
