QPR manager Mark Hughes felt his side’s first half performance cost them against West Ham.

The Hammers triumphed thanks to goals from Matt Jarvis and Ricardo Vaz Te in the first half.

Although Adel Taarabt pulled a goal back for the R’s the east Londoners held on to claim the win as Samba Diakite was sent off for the home side.

“We were very poor in the first half,” Hughes said. “We weren’t anywhere near the level we need to get to.

“In the first half we were off the pace for whatever reason.

“We were better in the second half. Adel got a great goal. The sending off killed the momentum. We’re desperately disappointed.”

The result leaves the R’s at the bottom of the Premier League and Hughes knows that this must change quickly.

“Prior to the goals going into the net there are things we need to address,” he added.

“We need to stop crosses at source. We need to stop things happening before they do.

“We’ve been poor in a number of games. We’ve got a big game at the weekend (West Brom away).

“They had a real go in the second half and we had too much to do.

“We’ve had a difficult run. We’ve played quality sides. West Ham played well in the first half. In the second half we were much better.”
