Slade gives Orient players an ear-bashing

O’s chief can find few positives after Bournemouth defeat

Orient boss Russell Slade admitted he could find very few positives following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth – and read the riot act to his players afterwards.

“There are probably a few head injuries after I have given them an ear-bashing,” said Slade after the game.

O’s defended doggedly and although they offered little going forward they looked as if they might grab a point in an uninspiring affair.

“I don’t think it was a classic was it,” said Slade

“Both teams were giving a lot of ball away for the entire game and in the end it’s been settled by two gifts. We gifted them two goals.”

But it was not just the two defensive lapses that worried the Orient boss.

“We created very little and neither did they,” he said.

“They had a little bit more pressure than us and they had a few more corners than we did. But my keeper didn’t have a save to make. One in the first half where he was through one-on-one and he had to make a block and that was it.”

The O’s boss labelled Bournemouth’s first goal a fluke and blamed goalkeeper Ryan Allsop and skipper Nathan Clarke for the second.

“The keeper shouldn’t have thrown it out at that stage and it wasn’t really on,” he said.

“He has got to learn. He was told before the game not to do that and the centre half was told.

“If they think they can start doing their own thing our players are mistaken, so we will start nice and early and go and put it right on the training ground.

“We will be starting on Monday and we have done our schedules. I’m not one to start spitting my dummy out that way, but what I am is someone that will work harder if things are not going right and we will start earlier and work harder.”

Slade was disappointed his side did not put Bournemouth under more pressure.

“We should have been on the front foot a little more,” he said.

“I thought the first 25minutes might be the hardest and we saw that out without too much drama and we got through until half time and I though we should have pushed on in the second half, but it wasn’t to be.”
