Orient came from a goal down to open their account for the season at Boundary Park.

Beaten at home by Chesterfield on the opening day of the new term, Russell Slade’s men fell behind with barely 15 minutes played as Jonathan Forte put the home side ahead.

But Darius Henderson levelled, then set up a second for David Mooney in the second half but substitute Kevin Lisbie sealed the points when scoring with his first touch.

Summer signing Henderson had netted as a substitute in the 2-1 loss against Chesterfield and was given his first start for the club, while Scott Cuthbert returned from injury.

But both sides took their time to settle on a chilly day in the north west, with no chances of note at either end in the opening 10 minutes.

The deadlock was broken, when Oldham countered and Forte found space on the left to advance onto Carl Winchester’s pass into the box and roll his shot past Adam Legzdins.

But the home side’s joy was shortlived as Henderson restored parity soon after, beating the offside trap to run on to Dean Cox’s through ball and finish calmly, left-footed, past Paul Rachubka.

Oldham had a good chance to regain the lead when Forte picked out Liam Kelly, but he scuffed his attempt wide.

Then O’s went close from a Cox corner as Cuthbert nodded the ball down towards Henderson, before the home defence scrambled clear.

The visitors began to gain the upper hand around the half-hour mark and Jay Simpson almost converted from Shane Lowry’s dangerous ball into the box.

But Henderson was booked for a foul seven minutes before the break and was almost punished soon after having conceded possession as Kelly was inches away from putting Oldham back in front.

Lowry had his name taken by referee Darren Bond just before the break as the two sides went in deadlocked.

But O’s made a bright start to the second period and a Cox corner just evaded the head of French defender Mathieu Baudry.

And they took the lead just before the hour mark when Cox picked out Henderson, who kept his composure well to play the ball in for Irishman Mooney to slip under Rachubka.

The visitors made sure of the points after an inspired substitution from boss Slade on 80 minutes.

Having sent Lisbie on for Henderson, Slade saw the Jamaican net with his first touch, heading home from Cox’s inswinging corner to ensure a happy return home to east London before the next road trip to Bristol City on Tuesday.
