New Leyton Orient striker Chris Dagnall promised to ‘give my all’ after signing an 18-month contract.

The 27-year-old was released by Barnsley last week after two years at the club.

Dagnall scored 11 goals in 71 appearances for the Tykes and has also played for Tranmere Rovers, Rochdale and Scunthorpe United as well as loan spells at Bradford City and Coventry City while at Oakwell.

He said: “I’m over the moon. After sorting my contract with Barnsley, it’s great to get a club doing so well in the league and I can get myself settled now.”

Dagnall added that the presence of Orient manager Russell Slade was a key factor in him joining.

“I met the manager and he’s a top fella and really sold it to me.

“You only have to look at the table to see how well the club is doing and we have every chance of promotion which made it an easy decision. It’s a nice training ground, the lads all seem really good and I’ve enjoyed my first day.”

Slade said he was looking for an experienced striker to complete his squad, and the capture of Dagnall could bring an end to the club’s January business.

He is available for Saturday’s match at Crewe Alexandra and will wear the number 23 shirt during his time at Brisbane Road.

Having been out of favour at Barnsley this season, Dagnall explained what he’s hoping to achieve at Orient and what O’s fans can expect of him.

He said: “First and foremost I like to work hard and give 100 per cent every game. I mix my game up, so can run in behind or drop off short too but above everything I make sure I work hard every game.

“I want to play as many games as I can and score a few goals and help the club get promoted. I’m really looking forward to my debut. I’ve not really played a huge amount of football this season so can’t wait to get back in to the swing of things.”
