Midfielder and left back commit to the O’s
Lloyd James has today signed a new two-year contract with Leyton Orient.
The Welsh midfielder joined the Brisbane Road ranks from Colchester in 2012 and helped Russell Slade’s men to a third-place finish in League One this season, with a record 86 points.
James started the play-off final against Rotherham at Wembley on Sunday and was on target in the penalty shoot-out, only for O’s to lose 4-3.
Speaking after their heartbreaking defeat, James said: “We’re gutted and disappointed. We knew what a good chance we had but full credit to Rotherham. They held their nerve.
“We know what it feels like to come close. We’re going to enjoy our breaks and come back next season raring to go.”
That news was closely followed by the announcement that left back Gary Sawyer will be staying at the O’s, having signed a new one-year deal, with potential for it to be extended further.
Sawyer was signed from Bristol Rovers in the summer of 2012, and has made 70 appearances for Russell Slade’s side, 25 of them coming in the 2013-14 campaign.
