Orient striker Chris Dagnall scored his first home goal for the club against Stevenage on Tuesday – and admits he needs to keep scoring to stay in the team.

The former Barnsley striker started up front with David Mooney, with veteran Kevin Lisbie dropping to the bench.

With Shaun Batt returning ahead of schedule after a hamstring tear and Robbie Simpson and Yohann Lasimant waiting in the wings, it’s an area of the pitch where Orient are well-stocked.

Dagnall said: “The strikers have scored a lot of goals this season.

“The competition for places is red hot right now, Batt’s come back into the team and it’s great for the club.

“The only way to stay in the team is if I keep scoring goals. If I’m not, I can’t expect to stay in there too long.”

Dagnall could have scored more than the one he ended up with as winger Dean Cox supplied the service “all forwards want.”

But the 27-year-old thought it was crucial to end a run of four games without a win ahead of two more Brisbane Road encounters against Swindon Town and Colchester
United.

“With Wolves and Brentford playing each other, it’s a massive chance for us to claim some points back on them with two home games to come,” Dagnall said.

“The last three or four results are a shame but we’ve got back to winning ways, hopefully now we can kick on.”

After netting his third goal for the O’s, Dagnall insists he has not set himself a number to reach by the end of the season.

The striker said: “My target is the same as everyone else’s - to get promotion no matter how many I score.
