Essex Senior League: Clapton 0 Sawbridgeworth Town 3
10-man Clapton were brushed aside as they went on to lose 3-0 against Sawbridgeworth Town at the Old Spotted Dog yesterday.
Tons goalkeeper Pepe Diagne saved well from Mitchell Das’ with just three minutes on the clock, but Chris Wood’s side had a good opportunity to give them the lead.
Captain Ben Lowes’ free-kick fell to Billy Wise but his shot was just over the bar, however, Sawbridgeworth took the lead with 10 minutes on the clock in unusual circumstances.
Danny Hammett’s free-kick from his own half caught Diagne off his line and the ball found the back of the net.
From then on Town looked dangerous on the attack as they went on the hunt to double their lead.
Billy Jones was their main threat in the first half as he looked dangerous on the flanks and was testing Diagne out, before Town did double their lead in stoppage time,
And Jones was the man on target as he curled the ball in to the corner of the net, with Diagne having no chance with the effort.
But there was still time for Clapton’s day to go from bad to worse as they were reduced to 10 men later in stoppage time when Dean Bauho saw a red card for a two-footed tackle on Billy Tarner.
As the second half begun, Clapton defend well as Town tried to make the most of their numerical advantage.
And despite being down on numbers the Tons fought well, though their only good chance of the half saw substitute James Briggs’ long range shot go just over the bar.
Clapton’s fans continued to cheer on in vain and Jones put the game to bed as he scored again in the dying moments.
