Gordon Brasted Trophy: FC Romania 0 London APSA 1
London APSA made it 10 games without defeat as Keith Oppong’s goal sealed victory in the Gordon Brasted Trophy last night.
Urfat Hussain returned to the side and APSA went close early on as Alex Akanbi had a header saved from a Vendel Nunes cross.
Nunes set up Oppong soon after, but he could not convert, and home keeper Danut Motoe produced another save to deny Oppong.
Bogdan Idu and Ion Vintila fired wide for the hosts, before Jason Agyekum fired against the crossbar for APSA, after good work from Zaeem Husein and Nunes in the build-up.
Fahad Nyanja headed over from a Husein ncross before Christiaan Beaupierre saved from Idu at the other end.
Beaupierre produced a fantastic block to deny the home side early in the second half before Oppong and Nunes wasted further chances for APSA.
Nunes sent Tajammil Hussain clear on the hour, but his curling effort was palmed wide by Motoe, before the breakthrough came on 75 minutes.
Urfat Hussain’s throw-in found Amod Adeyemi, who found Jorge Sambu to spray the ball wide to Akanbi.
And after a lovely one-two with Tajammil Hussain, Akabni delivered a perfect cross for Oppong to finish at the near post.
FC Romania went close to a late equaliser when a swirling free-kick hit the crossbar but APSA held on to the delight of chairman Anjum Khan.
He said: “It’s a fantastic result for the club on a few different levels. “To beat FC Romania away from home in the cup is a very good result. To make it 10 games unbeaten is a fantastic achievement and the work everyone is doing at the club has really shown on the pitch.” APSA: Beaupierre, U Hussain, Akanbi, Akande, Nyanja, Adeyemi, Husein (Sambu 62), Nunes, T Hussain, Agyekum, Oppong.
