Wood going stir crazy without action
Stir-crazy Clapton boss Chris Wood says his players are “desperate” to return to action when they entertain Enfield 1893 at the Old Spotted Dog on Saturday.
The Tons have not played for nearly a month as a result of several postponements due to the poor weather.
Clapton saw their home game against Hullbridge Sports called off last weekend, which means their most recent outing was their surprise 3-2 win at Bethnal Green United back on January 12.
Wood admits that he’d have preferred to follow up that success with the fixtures originally scheduled than against Enfield, who are fourth in the Essex Senior League table.
But he can’t wait for his men to get their boots back on this weekend.
Wood said: “No disrespect to those teams but we’d have preferred to follow up our win at Bethnal Green by playing the likes of Haringey, Stansted and Hullbridge rather than Enfield next.
“But you’ve got to play everybody and we’re desperate to get out there after a month without action – I’m going stir crazy!”
Enfield bounced back from four league and cup defeats when they beat London APSA 1-0 on Tuesday evening.
Wood is reluctant to make changes to his side but Dave Armstrong should eventually serve his one-game suspension on Saturday while Carlos Mullings is also unavailable for the game.
Yaya Sanogo says a meeting with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was enough to persuade him to snub a move to Lille and join the Gunners instead.
