Stephenson looks ahead to trip to Hullbridge
Bethnal Green United manager Anton Stephenson is hoping his side can stay on track now that he is back in the dug-out following a short absence.
Stephenson’s return coincided with a 3-0 home win against Bowers & Pitsea last weekend – courtesy of Stephen Opoko’s hat-trick – following two defeats.
And after Wednesday evening’s home game against Southend Manor was postponed, he is looking forward to Tuesday’s visit to Hullbridge Sports following a blank weekend.
Stephenson said: “It was nice to get back in the dug-out and start off with a win again after being unavailable for a short while.
“From what I heard we hadn’t been committed enough in the other games.
“But hopefully that commitment is back and we can start to push up the table again.”
Struggling Hullbridge Sports were set to visit London APSA on Thursday while sitting level on points with bottom club Clapton at the foot of the Essex Senior League table.
They have failed to win any of their last four games and, like Bethnal Green, do not have a fixture on Saturday and so will have several days to prepare for the clash.
Stephenson suggested it would be difficult to change a winning side, so looks set to keep Ainsley Gasper in the team after his first game of the season against Bowers & Pitsea, while Matt Gulfer should also start.
Yaya Sanogo says a meeting with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was enough to persuade him to snub a move to Lille and join the Gunners instead.
