Dagenham & Redbridge manager Wayne Burnett hailed yesterday’s 3-1 win over Rochdale as an “unbelievable” result for the club.
Rhys Murphy put the hosts in front after nine minutes and despite pressure from the Keith Hill’s visitors, the Daggers doubled their lead after the break when Medy Elito chipped Josh Lills.
Gary Dicker’s close range effort ensured a nervy finale but Burnett’s side made sure of the victory with Elito’s second deep into stoppage time.
And though the Victoria Road boss believed it wasn’t the greatest performance from his side, he did feel it was the best result of the season.
“We had no doubt how difficult it would be and they could have been 1-0 up after 15 seconds and it would have changed the complexion of the game but it didn’t and we managed to get the result,” said Burnett.
“I think we were under a little bit of pressure in the first half because they passed it nicely but our game plan worked well. We knew they’d have plenty of the ball as they have done against most teams this season but I think tactically we got it spot on.
“We played against a good team with some great players so it’s an unbelievable result for this football club and don’t let anyone say any different. Was it a great performance? No, but it was a fantastic result.”
And the Daggers chief hailed his side’s clinical nature in front of goal, with Rochdale having plenty more chances than the hosts.
“It was very good with some fantastic finishes and I can’t ask for anymore,” he added.
“Medy has come up with the two great goals and I was just about to bring him off.”
