Transfer news: Manager Arsene Wenger is expecting a busy finale to the transfer window at Arsenal as he looks to bring more new faces to the Emirates.
The Gunners today confirmed the re-signing of French midfielder Mathieu Flamini after his contract expired at AC Milan.
The 29-year-old is Arsenal’s second signing of the summer following the arrival of young striker Yaya Sanogo, but the Gunners have yet to flex their financial muscle in the transfer market.
Arsenal have until Monday’s deadline to strengthen their squad, and Wenger admits he is keen to push through late deals, especially after serious injuries to Mikel Arteta, Lukas Podolski and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Asked if he is looking for more new signings, Wenger told the club website: “Yes, of course. When you think that we lost three players of the stature of Arteta, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Podolski for three months basically before the season really starts, it’s very hard to take and we are in a position where you want some more players.”
