Transfer news: Alan Dzagoev has been linked with a move to London
With Luka Modric seemingly heading out of the door at White Hart Lane, another Eastern European playmaker could soon be his replacement, in the form of Russian winger Alan Dzagoev.
The 22-year-old CSKA Moscow star is apparently wanted as Andre Villas-Boas’s second Spurs signing after the capture of Jan Vertonghen last week, if you believe the player’s own father. He is keen to test himself in the top leagues, after spending his whole career to date in his homeland.
Valued between £13 and £15 million, it could represent a real bargain for Spurs if they get the reported £35 million for Modric from Real Madrid. He shone at the recent European Championships, scoring three times from just 10 shots before Russia were surprisingly knocked out of the tournament.
His pace and trickery are his signuature traits, yet he impressed at the Euros playing as an advanced central playmaker. However signing him as a winger could allow Rafael van der Vaart license to play more centrally in his preferred role, or play in a pacy triumverate of himself, Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon.
However, Dzagoev is also interesting Arsenal and Chelsea, who could make a late swoop. Either way, it seems like the Premier League is his destination in the not-too-distant future.
