London24 readers have named their club’s players of 2012 and they are Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, Chelsea’s Juan Mata, Fulham’s Bryan Ruiz, QPR’s Ryan Nelsen, Tottenham’s Sandro and West Ham’s Winston Reid, but which one was the best of all last year?
But which one was the shining light of London football in 2012. Which player deserves to take the title that Adel Taarabt won last year.
Below are the profiles of the players.
MIKEL ARTETA has been an ever present for Arsenal in the Premier League this season and is one of the first names on the team sheet. The former Everton man has carved a consistent niche as a more defensive midfielder since the departure of Alex Song and is the go-to guy for penalties with three of his four goals in the current campaign coming from the spot.
JUAN MATA has sparkled in the Chelsea midfield ever since his arrival in August 2011. He knits the attacking play for the Blues with consummate ease. The scorer of key goals, he’s crucial to the side’s success.
BRYAN RUIZ has gone from strength to strength for Fulham this season, scoring three goals in 11 games and is starting to justify his £10million price tag.
RYAN NELSEN has been one of the successful summer signings at QPR. The former Spurs man has given everything to the cause, where others have failed. However, he is set to leave to become manager of Toronto FC.
SANDRO has become a central player for Tottenham, playing 51 times for Spurs in 2012 and missing just three matches so far this campaign as he continues to develop an exciting partnership with Mousa Dembele.
WINSTON REID transferred his form from the Championship to the Premier League for West Ham. Another ever present, he’s played in every Premier League game and one of the reasons why the Irons have conceded just 23 goals in 19 games this term.
