Transfer news: Mark Bosnich has urged Arsenal to cash in on Robin van Persie
Former Manchester United and Aston Villa goalkeeper Mark Bosnich thinks Arsenal have no choice but to sell wantaway striker Robin van Persie.
Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Man Utd have lodged a bid for the 29-year-old Dutchman, who has also been linked with Manchester City and Juventus, but the Gunners are reluctant to lose their talisman to one of their main rivals.
Rivals or not, former Australia international Bosnich thinks the north Londoners must strip Van Persie of the club captaincy and sell him before his value starts to plummet in the final year of his contract.
“If [Van Persie] has made his mind up that he wants to go, [Arsenal] should just try and get the best price possible for him,” Bosnich told Talk Sport.
“Because each month that goes by this season they are going to lose money on him,” he continued.
“If negotiations to go to a new club break down, there’s no way they can afford to keep him on the bench if he stays at Arsenal.
“To have him as captain will maybe send out the wrong message as a club for Arsenal.”
Yaya Sanogo says a meeting with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was enough to persuade him to snub a move to Lille and join the Gunners instead.
