Transfer news: Robin van Persie is widely expected to leave Arsenal this summer
Former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini has told Manchester United and Manchester City target Robin van Persie to do what makes him happy with regards to his future.
The unsettled Gunners skipper announced he would not renew his contract at the Emirates last month but Arsenal are playing hardball over losing the Dutch hitman.
Flamini, 28, left the Gunners for AC Milan in 2008 under similar circumstances, having wound down the final year of his contract.
And the Frenchman says he will support his former teammate Van Persie whatever his decision.
“He has a very complicated situation because he has to make a very important decision,” Flamini told Goal.com.
“He’s a good friend of mine and I’m sure whatever he decides will be best for him and his family. I will support him in whatever he decides.
“Listen, it’s important for him to be happy. Whatever choice he makes will be the best decision for him,” added Flamini.
29-year-old Van Persie, who fired 37 goals in all competitions for the Gunners last season, is also wanted by Italian giants Juventus.
