Nicklas Bendtner was delighted to score at the European Championship but the bitter taste of defeat ruined any joy he had
Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner admitted that his dream had been tarnished by Denmark’s last gasp defeat against Portugal.
The Gunners man scored twice as the Danes came back from 2-0 down to level the scores but Silvestre Varela scored late on to win it for Portugal.
“I’m really disappointed,” Bendtner told DR1. “It’s always great to score but the most important thing for me was to hold onto the point.
“My dream of scoring a goal in the Euros came true, but that was the only thing that I was happy about. The disappointment of losing the point was greater than scoring the goals.
“We gave everything we had and we fought really hard to get back into the game. Coming back to 2-2 was fantastic for us. So of course we were sad and disappointed that we lost the game.”
Bendtner is likely to find himself in trouble with Uefa after he revealed sponsored underwear after scoring his second.
