Wayne Rooney’s return is likely to mean that one, possibly two, of Theo Walcott, Andy Carroll and Danny Welbeck will be left on the substitutes bench for England’s final group D game against Ukraine on Tuesday
England manager Roy Hodgson has a selection headache with the return of Manchester United star Wayne Rooney from suspension.
The striker was suspended for the first two games of Euro 2012 after his red card against Montenegro and is expected to return for the Three Lions’ final game against Ukraine.
However, Liverpool striker Andy Carroll and Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck both scored against Sweden last night and Arsenal star Theo Walcott was instrumental after he came off the bench on the hour mark.
Their performances mean it will be hard for the former West Brom boss to decide who misses out.
“I welcome those kind of selection problems,” said Hodgson. “I was really pleased with the performance of the front players.
“But Wayne Rooney is a special player and, frankly, it will be hard frankly to leave him out.
“I’m afraid you expect him to get back into the team when the suspension is served.”
As another enthralling Premier League campaign comes to a close, it’s time to look at some of the men who made their mark.
