Robert Pires believes Mathieu Debuchy should sign for the Magpies
Arsenal legend Robert Pires has urged Gunners target Mathieu Debuchy to make a move to Newcastle.
The France international has been linked with a move to north London as well as the north east in recent weeks but Pires believe he is better suited at the Magpies.
“He has a game which really suits the Premier League with his speed. He also has such an attacking game, but is very aggressive in defence”, Pires told Le 10 Sport.
“If I have any advice to give him, it would be to try his luck in England.”
The 38-year-old believes that Newcastle would be the best destination for the full back because of the French contingent of Hatem Ben Arfa and Yohan Cabaye.
“It does not really surprise me that English clubs are interested in him. Newcastle would be a very good club for him because he would find his friends [Yohan] Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa,” he continued.
“Also, they are one of the top English clubs, with a history and a beautiful stadium. For him and the rest of his career, they would be a nice stepping stone.”
As another enthralling Premier League campaign comes to a close, it’s time to look at some of the men who made their mark.
