The new gallery, No.1 Warehouse, is now open and focuses its work on the listed building itself and remember what it was like back in the early 19th century on the West India Docks.

With the opening coming, as the first part of a major development to transform the Museum of London Docklands galleries, and aiming to reveal the inner workings of London’s docks and warehouses.

Francis Marshall, Senior Curator at the Museum of London, said “The gallery is the first major redevelopment of our galleries since London, Sugar and Slavery opened in 2007.

“It tells a story unknown to many, but which underpins the development of this city. We’re thrilled to be using this opportunity to focus on such an important piece of London’s history and with such significance for our local area.”

The gallery will bring to the life the story of the working days in the Docks, as they will have historic machinery and equipment on show, which performed the day-to-day works in the area.

While, there will also be films and pictures of the working days in the 19th century, which will show the glory days of when the building was piled high with valuable cargoes from around the world including sugar, rum, tobacco, spices, coffee, timber

and wine.

The Museums is open daily from 10am to 6pm and is free entry.
