SOME of the top names in modern Asian music - Imran Khan, Mumzy Stranger, Abbas Hassan, Raghav and many more - take to the stage in Barking Park on Sunday for the eighth East London Mela.

The event is a big party, a vibrant and colourful celebration of Asian culture and will be hosted by BBC Asian network presenter Sonia Deol.

Among the big names is singer and EastEnders actress Preeya Kalidas (who plays Amira in the BBC soap).

She released her debut single, Shimmy, this week, featuring Mumzy.

He was interviewed in the Recorder Review in April, when we tipped him for great things.

Real name Muhammad MumithAhmed, 26, from Plaistow, he has been taken under the wing of Indian R&B fusion guru Rishi Rich - who also discovered Jay Sean.

There will be two music stages and the park will have attractions for all ages, irrespective of ethnic background, religion or colour.

The aim of the event - sponsored by the Recorder - is to bring together the communities of the local area and to offer a fantastic fun-filled family day out.

Gates open at noon and close at 8pm. Tickets are £5 for adults, £3 for children under 12.
