Correct way to spend pennies

29 January 2009

THE recent cold snap had me thinking about Paul Foley's letter and the toilets in Green Street (Public Opinion, December 17).

Decent toilets are few and far between across this borough. How can the council spend thousands of pounds on free firework and music shows yet fail to provide something as basic as a free toilet in a public shopping area?

The only free one at Queens Market is often closed and it is for men only, which is not fair.

The Queens pub saved the day for Mr Foley, but he will be sad to hear that if the council and St Modwen Properties get their way The Queens pub will be pulled down and not replaced.

The powers-that-be in this borough seem to have little understanding of just how big a mountain they have to climb in order to provide for local people, let alone hordes of visitors in 2012. - FRANK SMITH, Reginald Road, Forest Gate.
