Credit Crunch and Olympic Legacy in focus
19 September 2008
THE CREDIT CRUNCH, the Olympic legacy, transport and the low-carbon economy are just some of the topics that will be discussed at the two-day Thames Gateway Forum 2008 in November.
Speakers already booked for the event, on November 26 and 27, include Caroline Flint MP, Minister for Housing, Sir Bob Kerslake, chief executive designate of the new Homes and Communities Agency and Sir Terry Farrell, design champion, Thames Gateway Parklands.
Following the Prime Minister's keynote speech at last year's event, in which he promised £9 billion to the regeneration of the Thames Gateway, the Forum will be presenting up to date news on the biggest regeneration scheme in Europe.
The conference, held at the ExCeL exhibition Centre in Custom House, kicks off on November 26 with a discussion on how the Thames Gateway succeeds in the face of the current credit crunch.
Another topic under the microscope during the day will be the Olympic legacy as speakers debate the latest thinking on how the London 2012 Games will provide a catalyst for new opportunities and the long term success of East London and beyond.
The second day features building schools in the Thames Gateway, the realities of delivering zero carbon homes and the orchestration of public and private interests to achieve wider regeneration in the Gateway among the varied subjects of discussion.
The conference is modular and runs two parallel streams with sessions in the Buro Happold Suite and the Gateway Suite.
This year's forum has a separate and extra event on Integrated Transport: the Catalyst for Regeneration at the Waterfront Rooms at ExCeL. It will bring together professionals and stakeholders from local, regional and central government to discuss the government's strategy on delivering and integrated and sustainable transport system.
Each session is £90 plus VAT. To book online go to www.thamesgatewayforum.com or call 0870 787 9483.
