Crackdown on drivers
28 July 2010
A CRACKDOWN on motoring offences has resulted in six un-roadworthy vehicles seized in the Royal Docks area.
It was the latest exercise of Operation Reclaim which since January has seen 512 offending cars "lifted" from Newham streets - the highest number of any London borough.
Meanwhile on Thursday, 23 drivers were stripped of their vehicle's MoT because of their unworthy condition, eight drivers received penalty notices for offences including not wearing a seatbelt and using a mobile phone while driving, and left ten drivers under investigation for suspected fraud.
Newham Police teamed up with council enforcement officers, the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency and the Department of Work & Pensions to target illegal motorists with an automated number plate recognition operation.
