Appeal goes out over stolen cockatoo
24 October 2008
AN appeal has gone out to find a white umbrella cockatoo that has been stolen from Newham City Farm.
Molly was taken from the farm in Stansfeld Road, Custom House, on Friday October 17 between 1.30 and 2.30pm.
Three men in their twenties were seen acting suspiciously and were witnessed leaving the farm clutching a bag to their chest.
The thieves sawed through a hasp that was secured by a padlock, in order to gain access to the aviary.
The cockatoo has distinctive light blue rings around her eyes and yellow colouring under her wings and head feathers. She also has a ring on her left leg.
Molly is very vocal and can be quite loud. She says hello and can make barking noises like a dog. She will bite if nervous or upset.
A spokeswoman for the farm said: "This is a very selfish act. Molly is a fantastic visitor attraction and everyone is deeply upset by the theft."
Anyone with information of her whereabouts should contact the police, or the farm on (020) 7474 4960.
