Breaking news: Incident at East Ham police station
16 February 2007
POLICE have arrested a man after a shot was apparently fired at East Ham Police Station just over three hours ago.
An area outside East Ham police station and part of Newham Town Hall, East Ham, opposite the station in High Street South, have both been taped off.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said a man was arrested shortly after a window was cracked at 6.50am, following what appears to be the discharge of a weapon.
In a completely unconnected event, TV crews are at the Town Hall covering a conference being staged by the Stratford-based The London Academy today. The subject is Emotional Literacy and the black and ethnic community. The agenda for the conference has been expanded to include gun crime, in light of events in the last two weeks in London, in which young men have been shot and injured or killed.
Police forensic teams are examining the police station to ensure that it was a shot that broke the window.
