Dash for cash helps hospice

12 November 2008
BIG-HEARTED children - including some on holiday abroad - gave up their spare time to take part in sponsored sports events to raise money for their sick counterparts.

The youngsters from an East Ham-based under-12s football club thought up the idea, did their bit, and got friends and relatives involved too - all in aid of Richard House children's hospice.

The efforts of the Flanders FC under-12s team and their supporters raised a vital £400 to help children less fortunate than themselves, to the pride and delight of their manager and coach Gary John-Lewis. He hopes they will inspire others to similar endeavours.

Children from the age of eight upwards were joined by parents in a sponsored run around the playground of Vicarage School, East Ham, during the school's half-term break.

The club meet at Flanders Field and have open days every Saturday.
