Airport wants more flights

08 August 2007
BOSSES have made an application for a big increase in flight movements at London City Airport in Silvertown.

They have requested a rise from 80,000 to 120,000 a year. It is based on a forecast that the terminal will continue to grow and handle 3.9 million passengers a year by 2010.

Airport chiefs say the plan is in line with the Government's Aviation White Paper which requires airports to make the most use of runways.

If the bid is approved, airport bosses say there will not be a change in opening hours, nor will there be any night flights.
